Equity and Experiential Learning

DESCRIPTION

In a world beset by myriad challenges from the existential threat of climate change and the scourge of racial injustice to the chronic problem of economic inequality,  educational institutions are reexamining their role in society and their obligations to students.  Many institutions are turning to expanded experiential learning opportunities as a core feature of their pedagogy, designed to help learners thrive in today’s complex and interdependent world.  However, redesigning universities with experiential learning at the center may create new problems for equity and inclusion.

The conversation focuses 1) designing for experiential learning with equity as a first priority, 2) measuring impact and effectiveness of experiential learning for diverse participants, 3) best practices for supporting experiential learning for non-traditional participants, and 4) strategies for engaging communities in experiential learning to advance equity.
